Writing great content over the long term is hard

I have often toyed with writing and publishing content online and you can see this with my Medium page. I have long gaps between bursts of content. This is because producing content that is of a high quality on a regualar basis is hard.

If you look at my business website I have consistently produced a blog post every week over over 2 years. This is no easy task either and I think part of the problem in me writing on Medium every week. When you add up what I am writing between email newsletters, proposal decks and blog posts for business every week I have hitting 50,000–60,000 words a week.

Adding an extra 500–1,000 on a personal blog doesn’t sound like that much in the grand scheme of things. However, that is something that in practice seems to turn out as low quality ramblings that do not deserve to be published.

Is there a solution? Well I think there could be.

Recently I moved to Working on a MacBook Pro instead of an iMac. This allows me to move around and get a change of scenes every now and then. This moving around lets me get into different modes. For example sitting at my desk is for hard work, coding and creating marketing strategries. Sitting at the dining table is good for admin and emails.

Sitting on the sofa is great for personal computing including writing a personal blog.

I know this may sound crazy but it has worked. This is the first blog post I have published on Medium but not the first one I have written. I have 3 more posts in draft that are finished all apart from a proof read. Personally I think this way of different places around the house for different types ot work has been working brilliantly the last week and a bit since I got the Macbook Pro and I don’t see it changing.
